the love we brush aside
by Estrella Echeverria, 10th
love
what is love
it’s the comfort of friends
and the holding of hands
it’s the knowing silence
and the heartfelt guidance
the greeks had seven words
for different types of love
so why must we
only believe in one
love isn’t just romantic
it’s more than just love-filled words
and kisses
it’s tears shared with friends
and a familial embrace
that to a broken heart act as loving stitches
love is who you choose
to be there for you
it’s the freedom you crave
and the paths your friends help pave
the choices you make
and the promises you have to break
love isn’t always forever
it’s a fleeting subject
but we must never forget to embrace it
not treat it as an invaluable object
the greeks had seven words for love
so why must we use one
when love is all encompassing
and can never be done
