Teacher of the Month (November): Ms. Bonnie Bostwick

Ms. Bostwick “in the act of creation!”

For the month of November, the Teacher of the Month is…Ms. Bonnie Bostwick!!

Bonnie Bostwick has been teaching at MKHS for 26 years, and currently teaches Drawing and Painting 1/2-7/8 and AP Art History. Bostwick received her Bachelor’s Degree at Occidental College and attended California State University, Los Angeles (CalState LA) for her teaching credential and additional art classes. Bostwick says that she chose art because it was “what I thought I wanted to do.” We asked Bostwick a few fun questions about art and herself.

Describe the color red without using any color names.

“Well, the red I’m thinking of is a velvety, rich color that makes my stomach warm. It’s a color that feels like a cool day with the heater on.”

If you could be one animal, what would you be?

“Elephants. Elephants are compassionate, and they can always overcome obstacles.”

What fictional character do you identify with the most, and why?

“I would say Little Black Sambo, because back when I was little and loved it so much, I didn’t have a clue how much baggage such an adorable little boy carried.”

Things to put in a salad?

“I like putting cheese, raisins, garbanzo beans” which she pointed out is NOT interchangeable with the name ‘chickpeas’, “and nuts. We’re assuming that I also have lettuce, right?”

What is your favorite artwork?

“It changes daily, but for today it is Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss.”

This is your last year before retirement. Looking back, how has your career been?

“It has been very satisfying, the kids are so nice, and I really liked the freedom I got here.”
