On August 8, the Class of 2027 entered Mark Keppel High accompanied by our Link Crew members. During their tour around campus, Link Crew members continuously engaged with new students by showing their classes, playing games, and creating cheers. According to freshman Riyana Padillo, “the Link Crew activities we participated in were fun and engaging.”
Link Crew, the popular leadership program founded in 2013, aims to help both new and returning students connect with their school through tours, team building activities, and discussions. Since its conception, Link Crew has been operating in 3,705 schools across the United States, helping nearly 2 million students.
“[I get] a sense of satisfaction of helping younger students transition to high school,” says Sean Yee, junior who was one of this year’s Link Crew members.
Not only is it beneficial to have a guide to help you navigate around, but when it comes to making friends, your guide may already be an acquaintance.
“It was fun for the most part, I made some new friends and got to see freshmen and how they were different from our year and last year’s freshies.” Stated Janelle La, junior, another Link Crew member.
Mark Keppel’s Link Crew is known by students and staff for their leadership skills, enthusiasm, and their ability to easily connect with the touring freshmen. Whether they do this for the added extracurricular or to guide the new youth, the Link Crew tours continue to be an integral part of the Mark Keppel experience. For the people considering joining next year’s Link Crew, “Try coming out of your comfort zone, because everyone there is as awkward as you,” says a junior, Kryztyanna Kwan.
