On Tuesday, October 17, Mark Keppel High School was placed in lockdown for almost an hour after school. Color Guard, Football, Band, as well as other pep teams and sports, were all having practice on campus at this time.
Due to the situation, pep teams weren’t able to continue their practice. The lockdown occurred so suddenly that many students were shocked and felt that it was a waste of time. Furthermore, there was no conclusion on what actually happened.
Sophia Lam, a junior on Keppel’s Color Guard team, stated, “I was shocked but not scared. I feel like it was a waste of my time because the threat wasn’t even at school and we couldn’t get any practice done that day.”
“I felt that the lockdown itself was efficiently dispatched but it was a waste of time. Nothing could be done although the issue was across the street. It was inefficient,” said Elaine Chen, a junior who is also a part of the Color Guard team.
Thankfully, no one at MKHS was harmed as the situation was not on campus. After the lockdown, students were sent back home safely.
