On February 14, Get Lit, an organization dedicated to spoken word poetry, hosted a presentation showcasing some of its ‘Get Lit Players’, or poets’, works. Their words were amazing, and throughout each, one could hear the ‘hmms’ and snaps from the audience. Near the end of it, they introduced some of Keppel’s very own students, members of Speak Now All Poets [SNAP], Keppel’s slam poetry team, Maryam Tall, Samantha Rios, and Zenina Adao, seniors who have been in SNAP for two years, to share their poetry. Tall shared an original poem on mental health while Rios and Adao shared classic poems, poems written by other poets. Rios performed “Throwing Children” by Ross Gay and Adao performed “Salmon” by Gabrielle Bates.
