As the calendar turns to September, Keppel students wait in anticipation for the year’s Homecoming reveal. Homecoming brings a night full of festivals and numerous school activities such as our annual Homecoming rally and the rival football match. Tristan Henriquez, a Keppel senior, stated, “I’m excited for homecoming because I can’t wait to see all the decorations the ASB has made, but my only hope is that this year’s theme is not Disney.”
The theme revealed this year was the 2014 Pixar movie Big Hero Six. It is a coming-of-age film of a healthcare robot Baymax and his super-brain companion Hiro Hamada.
When asked about this year’s theme, ASB Speaker of House, Cassidy Diep, said, “I think it’s super unique, because in the past we’ve stuck to the traditional Disney Princess theme. I think that this theme will also set us apart from other schools.” Brian Blackwater, senior, commented, “ Although I am disappointed in the theme, I still will attend as it is my last homecoming.”
With many different opinions on this year’s theme, Keppel students all have the same question about why this year’s homecoming was so early. This year, out of respect for our football team, administration has decided to move homecoming up to give football players the chance to attend without injury. Callie Ho, ASB president, said, “I think that ASB’s events had to be rushed this year due to the change, putting a lot of pressure on ASB.”
