Sean “Diddy” Combs, 3-time Grammy winner, was arrested as of Monday, September 17, 2024 at a hotel in Manhattan, New York. Sean Combs was charged with Racketeering Conspiracy, Sex Trafficking by force, Interstate Transportation for Prostitution and many other charges. Allegedly between 2008 to present, Combs was abusing victims to fulfill his sexual needs and desires. He had used his empire to abuse women and men, commit crimes, conduct illegal business, as well as planned and controlled sex performances with drugged trafficked sex workers. Combs had been the subject of an open investigation since his ex-girlfriend, R&B singer, Cassie Ventura, filed a lawsuit against him in November of last year, alleging years of abuse with a disturbing video of them from March of 2016 in the hallway of a hotel in Los Angeles where Combs decided to get violent with Ventura. This caused police to open an investigation. On March 24, 2024, his Miami and Los Angeles houses were raided. During those raids, officials found guns, ammunition, drugs, large amounts of baby oil, and lubricant. These products found were suspected to be used during his illegal sex parties. His parties, in which he did those acts, were also known as “Freak-Offs”.
Combs was born November 4, 1969 in Harlem, New York. He was raised Catholic and went to an all boys Catholic school in the Bronx, with a mom who was a teacher assistant and father serving in the US Air Force. At 2 years old, his father was shot dead, and years later, Combs found out the reasoning:a “drug deal gone wrong””.Growing up without a father, he looked up to other strong black male figures such as Muhammad Ali and Martin Luther King Jr.. As he was attending Howard University in Washington, DC, he was able to become an intern at Uptown records in New York and then built his way to Vice President of A&R (Artist and Repertoire”.)” He then dropped out of school to help develop and produce acts with artists. Combs was eventually fired from Uptown Records in 1993, but then went on to start his own label called “Bad Boy Entertainment” that same year. His label began to grow as he worked with The Notorious B.I.G., Faith Evans, and 112. Combs also produced for other icons such as Usher, Mariah Carey, and TLC. In the late 1990s, a rivalry between Bad Boy Entertainment and Death Row Records broke out, which resulted in gang affiliated activity between both labels. Towards the end of 1999, Combs was arrested for weapons violations after gunfire broke out at a nightclub he was attending with his then girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez. He was found “Not Guilty” on all charges.
Combs changed his name to “P Diddy” in 2001, and made many appearances in films like “A Raisin In The Sun“ and “”Made”. Throughout the mid 2000s he was dropping albums, signing names, and putting together groups while also working with MTV. In 2010, Combs switched to another label, released 2 clothing lines, a frequency line, a movie production company, and an upscale restaurant chain. Combs built a name for himself, as his empire grew, he became known as a great rapper, record producer, and record executive.
That all fell apart in 2008 as police and federal agents started investigating him prior to the raid. Prosecutors allege that he was in a criminal organization that engaged in or attempted to engage in forced labor, sex trafficking, kidnapping, arson, bribery, and many other offenses. The reason why it took law enforcement so long to catch him was due to him using his money and influence to not get caught, as well as tricking the police on his whereabouts. But as of right now, Combs is placed on suicide watch at the Metropolitan Detention Center in NYC.
