Now that fall is here and winter sports are here, our sports teams are holding tryouts for those interested in joining our school’s sports teams. The new school season means many fall and winter sports are starting up again. Tryouts are just around the corner for our Aztec girls & boys soccer, baseball, girls water polo, and badminton teams.
This year, our sports teams did tryouts a little differently depending on the sports. Some sports, like girls soccer and badminton, are holding open practices which allows anyone to come to regular practices and eventually be notified if they made it on the team or not based on their performance.
Boys soccer and girls water polo held traditional tryouts that took from 2-3 days where anyone can come and showcase their skills. Eventually, they would also be evaluated to see if they will be a good asset for this year’s team. Additionally, baseball also held 2-3 day tryouts, but let everyone who came onto the team because they were hoping for a full team this year.
Jovanni Frescas, a junior on the Mark Keppel Baseball team, said, “Tryouts were better than last year because there were more people this year and more talented players. I’m really looking forward to playing games this year with the new team.”
Sophia Borja is a sophomore who is trying out for this year’s girl’s soccer team. She has been playing soccer for 5 years as a part of AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization). When asked about tryouts, she stated, “Tryouts are going well so far. I like the team and the overall environment; it’s a chill and fun group of girls. I am confident that I will enjoy being a part of it”.
Goodluck to everyone who tried out for any of these sports and anyone interested in trying out in the future. Best of luck and good skill!
