Kendrick Lamar will be performing in the Superbowl on February 9th, 2025 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Some think of this as a diss to Drake and J. Cole. Kendrick Lamar has made a huge impact in the music world with his great achievements. He has won several Grammy Awards and even won a Pulitzer prize, a well-respected award amongst writers.
Several people believe that Lamar is performing in the Superbowl to diss Drake and J. Cole. They believe that because of Drake’s song, “First Person Shooter” featuring J. Cole. In the song, Drake and J. Cole made references to being “as big as the Superbowl”, which can mean having the qualifications and status to perform in it. Coincidentally, this song also started the infamous Drake and Lamar beef (to have a problem with someone.) With J. Cole rapping “Is it K-Dot? Is it Aubrey? Or me?” followed by “We the big three, Like we started a league, but right now, I feel like Muhammad Ali.” This line could imply that Lamar is in the same tier as Drake and J. Cole. However, Lamar did not agree. In other words, Lamar thinks he is above these two. This pushed Lamar to respond with his feature on Metro Boomin’s song, “Like That” and finally led up to him performing in the Super Bowl to put an end to this beef.
Paul Bartels, a senior at Mark Keppel High School, claims he doesn’t listen to Lamar and was unaware of his future appearance at the Super Bowl. When asked if this relates to the Drake and Lamar beef, he replied with “I think this relates because ‘Not Like Us’ is the biggest song of the year so they want the most popular people to perform at the superbowl.”
Jovanni Frescas, a junior at Mark Keppel High School, is an enthusiastic Lamar listener. When asked what songs he thinks would be played, he said, “‘Money Trees’, ‘Alright’, ‘DNA’, ‘Family Ties’ with Baby Keem, and ‘Not Like Us’.” He believes that all of these songs will be played because they are his popular songs.
Sophomore Evelynn Ly, said, “I love Kendrick and his music since his lyrics are always really good, especially to the beats that are created so I’m 1000% sure it’s going to be a historic moment in Super Bowl history.” Ly also thinks that “Not Like Us”, “LOVE.”, and “HUMBLE.”, and “All the Stars” will be played. She also hopes “Die Hard” is played at the Superbowl as it’s one of her favorite songs.
Many are excited about Lamar’s upcoming performance in the Super Bowl. Some think this won’t be like other Super Bowl performances because of the recent Drake and Lamar beef. Students at Mark Keppel High School are in support of his upcoming Super Bowl performance.
