After going viral on the internet for eating an insane amount of food, Nikocado Avocado resurfaced back to the media in a new shape. Nikocado has been an internet sensation since 2014, when he made a debut on YouTube by mainly posting mukbangs and food-eating challenges, with tons of views in all of his YouTube videos, for the wrong reasons. He was considered a joke on the internet because of his childish attitude and crazy videos. He would eat absurd amounts of food for views and social media traction. However, eating a surplus of unhealthy foods in one sitting, turned out for the worse, resulting in gaining tons of weight. As he appeared to be an average-sized human at the beginning of his career, he turned out to be massively overweight and needed a motor vehicle to help him with his daily transportation as a substitute for walking. The internet mocked Nikocado for his unruly figure, his childish attitude, and the continuation of the absurd food challenges.
On Sept 8, Nikocado Avocado made a post to his YouTube and TikTok, titled “Two Steps Ahead.” Many of his fans rushed to view the video without knowing what would come. He had posted the video and it spread far and wide throughout TikTok and other social sites, surprising everyone. Nikocado Avocado had all of a sudden, appeared to be drastically different in size. He had gone back to his average-sized self, which shocked the media because just yesterday, he was three hundred pounds. Aaryn Angeles, a fellow Mark Keppel student shared his opinions about this topic, “For someone to lose that much amount of weight is so crazy, it is kind of unbelievable.” There’s no way someone can change that quickly until Nikocado has explained himself. A lot of people like Aaryn don’t believe he had lost weight so it had become a whole controversy if he was using old footage.
The media made an assumption claiming that he had prerecorded hundreds of mukbang videos to post, to make it look like he hadn’t changed. However, throughout all of that, he had been losing weight, tricking all of his viewers. Nikocado has not confirmed this himself, although it is pretty obvious what was going on. He did this to tie in with his “Two Steps Ahead” video title, in which he said, “This has been the greatest social experiment of my entire life, it’s luring, it’s compelling, it’s gripping to observe all these unwell disoriented beings roam the internet in search of stories.” He had a point to prove about the internet and what is perceived by young and impressionable minds. Nikocado makes a strong point that a lot of people on the internet seek stories to keep their minds occupied and that they believe anything. His social experiments opened the eyes of many viewers.
Social media is a dangerous place online, especially for the young minds of the upcoming generations. The majority of people who browse the internet are those of younger ages, and of those people, they are the most impressionable. It is important to know that not everything on social media is real and believing everything on the internet can cause lots of harm to the minds of the youth. It causes people to try to live up to unsustainable standards, which causes stress in failure to do so.
“Nikocado is actually kind of smart for doing this, he brought out a side of him that no one has really seen before. He also made me realize a lot about social media and what’s true or not,” Mark Keppel senior Evan Yip, states.
The internet is the place where everything can be, and most likely is, forged, making it easy to be misled. Nikocado proved a great point to the people who browse the internet. Despite his personality and persona in his videos, he has some good things to share after all.
