Gracie Abrams, a young new upcoming female artist, has recently released her second album, “The Secret of Us”. It was released on June 21, 2024, with the deluxe version of the album containing four new songs and three live versions being released on October 18th 2024. Gracie has now skyrocketed with these new releases, This album had a strong commercial impact,reaching the Billboard 200 charts and amassing millions of streams shortly after its release. With the most popular songs on the album being “Close to You”, “Risk”, and “I love you, I’m Sorry”.
Abrams had her big break when she was given the opportunity from Taylor Swift to be one of her opening acts for the Eras Tour. Before the Eras Tour, Abrams was a much smaller artist, only having one album and only having a small tour. The impact of the Eras tour had changed her career massively. Before every show on Swift’s tour, she would play about 7-8 songs in front of crowds of 30 to 40 thousand people. One of her hit songs, “I miss you, I’m sorry” became a huge hit due to the part of the song where the crowd would interact and scream “sorry” to her. It had become a trend on which show was the loudest. This trend blew up all over social media with it becoming one of the most exciting parts of Abrams’ set, the streams on the song “I miss you, I’m sorry” blew up making it one of her biggest hits. With this rising demand for new music by Abrams she then announced her new album “The Secret of Us”.
The new album has 13 songs, while the deluxe has 20. The only feature on this album is Taylor Swift in the song, “Us”. This album was produced by prominent names like Aaron Dessner, Sam de Jong, and Jack Antonoff. These songs show themes of love, heartbreak, and personal growth. Compared to her last album, this one has a much more upbeat sound, and Abrams has very much transitioned into a more mature sound. The Secret of Us has been well-received by critics for its honest lyricism and well-crafted production, making it a huge step to Abrams’ career as she continues to build on the success of her debut and connect deeply with her audience.
Gia Flores, a junior at Mark Keppel High School, says she has been listening to Abrams for about a year now. She elaborates “ I enjoyed her new album very much, I like this one way more because it is not as sad as her other albums. When I listened to it for the first time, I was actually surprised it wasn’t sad and gloomy like her others.” Lisa Lui, a junior at Mark Keppel says, “Even though I just started listening to Gracie, I really enjoy her music. This album made me start listening to her and now I listen to her daily. Her music is very outgoing and fun to sing along too.” Aaliyah Palacios, a junior at Keppel says “I’ve only listened to the most popular songs on the album. They are all over my Tiktok For You Page. The songs I did hear are fun; mostly upbeat. I do like them.”
“The Secret of Us” is a folky-pop album that explores themes of love, heartbreak, and self-worth. It has millions of streams, and one grammy nomination. The album is available on all streaming platforms.
