Imagine waking up to a knock on your door, only to find out that ICE agents are ready to take you or your loved ones away–without warning or time to say goodbye. Currently, this is what many immigrant families are experiencing across the country–being separated from their loved ones, taken from their homes, and deported to a different country.
ICE stands for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. They are an agency that enforces immigration and custom laws in the country, which includes sending illegal immigrants back to their “home country.” The raids are starting to appear all across the country because of President Donald Trump’s executive orders, in which he wants ICE to meet the quota of 1,200 to 1,500 arrests per day.
The individuals that are affected by this are the immigrants that do not have any citizenship in the U.S. This can also include those who have broken immigration laws, overstayed their visas, and/or reentered the country after being deported. Some of the problems of the deportation is that deportees have trouble finding jobs after they are deported, may not have a place to go back to, and don’t have transportation.
There are many people who are against these ICE raids and are deciding to show their opinion about it. Many are taking to the streets and protesting, holding signs that are infuriated with ICE raids. Others are taking to social media and voicing their opinion about how this is all very unnecessary.
