The 2024 World Champion Los Angeles Dodgers continue their season breaking records with their new roster of superstar players. They started their season off strong with a strong record breaking final score of 11-3, making history with a start of 8-0, breaking the record previously held by the 1933 Yankees. This new roster featuring their superstar players like Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, and many more are hoping to defend their World Championship title this year.
The start of their season took place in Tokyo on March 18 and 19, 2025 against the Chicago Cubs in a two-game series. This marks the second time that the MLB season has started in Asia, as last year the Dodgers faced off against the San Diego Padres in Seoul, South Korea. The Dodgers were able to win both of these games against the Cubs with scores of 4-1 and 6-3. In these games, the Dodgers debuted their new star pitcher from Japan, Roki Saski, who was met with enormous anticipation.
Upon returning to the United States, the Dodgers continued their performance against the Detroit Tigers, where they swept them in a three game series at Dodger Stadium. They played against the Atlanta Braves on March 31st in another three game series continuing their winning streak. The team’s first loss happened on the road, where they traveled to face the Philadelphia Phillies on April 4. They won only one of the three games they played against, as these competitive games would lead to the Dodgers first season lost. This trend would then continue against the Washington Nationals on April 7 to 9th, where they again won one game out of three.
The Dodgers back at Dodger Stadium played against the Cubs for a rematch of the Tokyo Series. This time, the Cubs got their revenge by beating the Dodgers in two of the three games they played against them. While they did struggle to make hits, their pitching still looks valuable, as the performances of Blake Snell and Roki Saski continue to succeed.
In an interview with Aaliyah Palacios, a junior, when asked how she thinks the Dodgers are doing so far she voiced, “They aren’t doing good as they should be and they lost twice to the Cubs when they normally would’ve won.” She believes that their coach is, “probably too scared to change the lineup.” On the topic of the World Series, Palacios states, “From viewing the World Series records, the Dodgers win the World Championship about every 4 years, from their win last year in 2024, and the previous one before that in 2020, so I think that they may win again in a couple of years, but not this year.” While she has a lot of faith in Shohei Ohtani with his contributions to the team, she shared, “This season’s star player is for sure going to be Freddie Freeman.”
“I think since they went to the White House they got cursed and now they aren’t doing as well,” stated Bonnie Weng, a junior on the MKHS Girls Tennis team. Weng believes that, “Ever since they went to the white house they’ve been losing so much.” She thinks that they might win the World Series again because, “There are still so many games and anything could happen, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t win.” When asked who she thinks will be the star player this season, she claimed, “Shohei Ohtani for sure, he’s my favorite player on the Dodgers and I think he’s really good; no doubt he’ll be a starplayer.”
Looking ahead, the Dodgers will hopefully bounce back from their recent struggles. With their stacked roster, dominant pitching, and immense talent, they will continue to dominate the league and break records. As the season goes on, the Dodgers will remain as the main topic of baseball.
