Mark Keppel has welcomed a new Assistant Principal of Student Support Services, Rene Regalado. Regalado was transferred by the district from San Gabriel High school due to reorganization of positions. He previously worked in the Student Support Services office and the Office of Instruction at San Gabriel High School for four years and has counseled students for 12 years.
Regalado says the entire reason he got into counseling was to provide supportive guidance for students, as that was something he never had growing up. He expressed, “I remember feeling like there was no one in the counseling office that looked like me, so for me it was about guiding students – particularly minority students to really find a path that was good for them to be able to achieve their potential.” As a counselor he is able to create relationships with students where he can support them with any kind of problems they are going through.
He aims to guide students in a positive direction in their lives. As he settles into his new position at Mark Keppel, Regelaldo says, “my goal is ultimately to provide the highest level of safety and the highest sense of security for students and staff on campus.” He recognizes that Student Support Services’ main objective is campus safety, and student and staff welfare. Regalado expresses that his favorite part of Mark Keppel so far is the friendly students and staff, which has made this transition all the much easier.
He has enjoyed working with his administrative team and already has appreciative relationships with two of the assistant principals which has helped him ease into the school. Regalado hopes to continue this positive environment while steering all students in the right direction, no matter if it’s about their education or their emotional well-being. He loves seeing the close-knit community of Mark Keppel and wants the students and staff to arrive at school everyday feeling “both physically, academically safe, and emotionally supported by all the programs we offer here.” As the new school year kicks off, Mark Keppel’s Student Support Services is always there for a helping hand– and so is their Assistant Principal.
