The announcement of the death of Queen Elizabeth II came out of London, England today as a loss to the people of the United Kingdom, and another reminder that nothing lasts forever to those around the world. The Queen ruled over the United Kingdom, formerly the British Empire, for over 70 years, and in recent times has faced many medical incidents. Her family gathered at Balmoral early this morning for concerns toward Her Majesty’s health. Near 12 P.M. PST, the royal family made an announcement for Buckingham Palace, confirming the passing of the Queen. Public figures are expressing their condolences to the royal family and the people of the United Kingdom.

President Joe Biden on The Queen’s passing: “Her legacy will loom large in the pages of British history, and in the story of our world.”

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi: “Her extraordinary life and leadership will continue to inspire young women and girls in public service.”

Former President Barack Obama: “Her Majesty was just 25 years old when she took on the enormous task of helming one of the world’s great democracies. In the decades that followed, she would go on to make the role of Queen her own—with a reign defined by grace, elegance, and a tireless work ethic, defying the odds and expectations placed on women of her generation.”

The Queen’s son and current prince of the United Kingdom, Charles III, will take reign over the country following the funeral procession in a few days. He will be the 62nd Monarch of the United Kingdom.
