The Vicennial Total Eclipse

At 11:15 AM on April 8th, a solar eclipse took place over California. Students of Mark Keppel were peering out of their classroom windows to see the partial eclipse. The solar eclipse is a spectacular event in which the moon crosses over the sun, blocking it either partially or completely. However, a total eclipse is a very rare occurrence, especially if one is lucky to be in the direct path of totality. The last time such a rare event occurred in California was Sept. 10, 1923. Sadly, the direct path of totality didn’t cross over Monterey Park. The totality of the eclipse traveled from Maine, all the way down to the west into Mexico. If one wants to view an an eclipse, make sure to wear the necessary glasses and the correct eye protection to still be able to see the next eclipse that will come around.
