Mother’s Day is a celebration of the influential women that have shaped who we are throughout our lives. Observed on the second Sunday of May, the holiday is a time to show appreciation for the family members that make a positive impact. Mother’s Day recognizes the love and dedication that moms and mother figures provide and the profound influence of them in society.
This holiday is usually marked by eating together as a family along with flowers and handwritten letters. Many take the day to treat their family members with gifts and special meals. At its core, it is a tradition that shows gratitude for the women who have raised and shaped us.
“I like to celebrate Mother’s Day by giving my mom a day of rest in a spa for her to relax. Mother’s Day to me is an opportunity to appreciate all my mom’s hard work,” Pamela Ghazale, a senior at Mark Keppel, said.
“This Mother’s Day, I treated my mom to her favorite food for dinner, malatang,” Beverly Alexandra, another senior at Mark Keppel, said. “To me, Mother’s Day is a day to show appreciation and thanks for someone that has shaped, cared for and loved me so much during my entire life.”
Ultimately, Mother’s Day is not simply a bouquet of flowers or dinner at a restaurant but a recognition of the hard work and unconditional love presented by maternal figures of all types. Take this holiday to reflect on the importance of the women in our lives and show appreciation for their sacrifices and love.
