Earth Day is celebrated annually on April 22 and is a global event dedicated to environmental protection and sustainability. It is a day to reflect and appreciate the planet we all share and spend every day of our lives on. It brings forward the importance of not taking our environment for granted and doing our part in maintaining it.
As environmental issues rise, it becomes clear that we are forgetting the limitations of our resources. Climate change, drought, and loss of agriculture are only a few of many global issues that we still experience to this day. Many harmful daily habits and actions can build up, causing negative effects to the planet as a whole.
“I feel earth day is just like any other day, and it sucks because I feel it should be more important and we as people should care deeply about our Earth,” Dalyla Castaneda, a Keppel senior, said.
“I think the holiday is a sweet way to remind everyone that we should treat the earth with kindness,” Lexie Flores, another Keppel senior, said.
Ultimately, Earth Day’s importance lies in the message it sends about environmental protection and the reminder it serves to better our habits and protect our planet. Long term sustainability depends on collective action, community led initiatives, and daily behavioral choices. This Earth Day, we can do our part in showing our appreciation to the world we call our home.
