Barnes Park Pool is a popular community gathering spot during the summer. It is currently undergoing significant renovation and maintenance work in preparation to open back up again. The large pool has been completely drained, revealing its lane markers, starting blocks, and deep end structure.
Construction crews are hard at work resurfacing the pool’s interior, patching cracks, sealing joints, and applying new waterproof coatings. This process is essential to prevent leaks and extend the life of the pool. Workers have also been inspecting the filtration and plumbing systems to ensure everything meets current safety and health standards.
Barnes Park Pool has been a central part of the community for decades. During the summer months, it hosts recreational swim sessions, competitive meets for local swim teams, and more. Because of its heavy use, the pool requires periodic maintenance to remain safe and functional.
The Barnes Park Pool situation has certainly impacted the swim and water polo teams at Mark Keppel High School. They have not been able to practice there for a few months and are instead forced to have their home games at Schurr High School.
Ismael Perez, the Keppel Swim Coach, said, “The city is doing everything they can to get the pool back and the pool is getting renewed so it will be more useful. The swimmers wanted to go back to the pool so they would be able to swim. ”
In addition to resurfacing, the facility is expected to receive improvements around the pool deck, such as replacing worn-out tiles, repainting safety markers, and checking diving boards and starting platforms for stability. Signs posted around the facility indicate that the pool is temporarily closed while the work is completed.
City officials have not yet announced an official reopening date. The upgrades will not only enhance safety but also give the pool a cleaner, more modern look, ensuring it remains a vibrant part of the community for years to come.
