“Wicked: For Good” was released on Friday, Nov. 21 and is the sequel to “Wicked” (2024), based on act two of the stage musical. The two new songs “No Place Like Home” and “The Girl in the Bubble” added more nuance to the story by showing more depth of the main characters, Elphaba and Glinda. The movie took advantage of the format while keeping the iconic stage musical aspects. Most actors performed well in their respective roles and portrayed them well.
Many viewers thought the movie should have kept the stage musical transition between “I’m Not That Girl (Reprise)” into “As Long as You’re Mine” and the scream into “No Good Deed.” Many of the viewers also thought that some of the special effects looked strange and that Jon M. Chu miscasted Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible.
“I thought that the movie was very visually stunning,” Juelyanne Leyran, a senior at Mark Keppel High School, said. “They really took advantage of the movie format without compromising on letting the movie feel fully ‘musical theater.’”
“I think they definitely improved the main problem with the pacing,” Cathryn Do, a junior at Mark Keppel High School, said. “However, I don’t like how they took out a scene…yet advertised that one scene multiple times.”
Overall, this movie rating is 9.5/10. The movie improved the weak second act of the musical. It has minor flaws that do not impact the story.
