“The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants” was released on Friday, Dec. 19, and is the fourth theatrical SpongeBob film. The movie follows SpongeBob as he goes on a dangerous adventure to prove his courage and show Mr. Krabs that he is more mature, like a big guy. The film mixes humor with heartfelt moments and uses bright, colorful animation that fits its childlike setting. The jokes felt more classic and less forced than expected, with humor aimed at both kids and adults. One of the strongest parts of the movie was the antagonist, the Flying Dutchman. The creative roller coaster ending stood out as memorable. The movie’s nostalgic tone may be due to director Derek Drymon, who also worked on the first three seasons of the original “SpongeBob SquarePants” series.
“The movie brings lots of laughter and adventure. I think the plot was great for a kids movie,” Lexie Flores, a senior from Mark Keppel, said.
“I think the movie was okay. There wasn’t really a plot and more of just jokes for kids. I think it’s a good movie but they should let the Spongebob name die already,” Dalyla Casteneda, another senior from Mark Keppel, said.
Overall, “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants” delivers a fun, nostalgic adventure with classic humor and colorful animation that makes it better than expected.
