“Avatar: Fire and Ash,” the third installment of the Avatar series, was released on Friday, Dec. 19. The movie follows the characters Jake Sully, Neytiri, and their family. It continues the same storyline of its predecessors, featuring the humans/military forces as they attempt to take over Pandora and wipe out its native population. We are introduced to a new tribe, the Ash people, and their leader Varang. The pacing and graphics in this film are unlike any other. The attention to detail makes a visually realistic and appealing experience. The film itself is about two and a half hours long!
Justin Ng, a sophomore at Keppel, said, “I watched it in 3D. . . so good that I rewatched it twice already.”
The film was also met with mixed reviews by some audiences. Some claim that although the movie was interesting, the plotline was similar to the previous movies. Some were upset that the film featured the same characters, as the Ash tribe was the only new addition to the plotline.
Ashley Martinez, a senior at Keppel, said, “The movie was pretty good. . . they definitely just recycled the plot, there were no twists or surprises.”
If you can overlook a repetitive, general plotline, then “Avatar: Fire and Ash” is the movie for you. However, if you are not a fan of the repetition, you can sit this one out.
