Pinocchi-YES or Pinocchi-NO?

Pinnochio Live Action Review

Audrey Segura, Staff Writer

The ever-so-popular fairytale Pinocchio was recently made into a Live Action movie like many other classic Disney cartoon movies. The film, directed by Robert Zemeckis, was released on September 8, 2022. The movie stars Tom Hanks, Cynthia Erivo, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, just to name a few. Production first began in March 2021 and concluded the following month.

The original story of Pinocchio dates back to July 1881 and was written by the widely-known Italian author Carlo Collodi. The story was initially published as “The Story of a Puppet” in a weekly Italian magazine for children.

Pinocchio is a story about a wooden puppet brought to life by a  blue fairy. The puppet, Pinocchio wanted to seek adventure and become a real-life boy. Pinocchio left his father to join the circus, where his life massively changed.

Upon watching the film, I was excited to see how the movie would play out. I wanted to see the similarities and differences between the live-action movie and the animated one. As soon as the movie started, I saw that the CGI and animations of the movie were really realistic. It made me feel like I was still in elementary school, watching movies where I can FEEL the magic. It still included the most memorable scenes of the original movie. However, I began to feel pretty bored in the middle of the movie. I couldn’t even sit still while watching. At the end of the movie, I didn’t have any particular attachment to the movie. I was just glad that the movie was over.

Overall, I was very disappointed with how the movie turned out. I was expecting more thrill and excitement, but it is also a kids’ movie, so I really cannot complain about it since I am not the movie’s target audience.
