On Sunday, Nov. 14, the third movie of the series “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t” was released in theaters. The film follows its original cast plus a new generation of members on their quest to steal the world’s largest diamond from a South African mogul/crime syndicate lord. In the movie, there were many creative and innovative magic and visual tricks which blew the audience away. This allowed for an overall visually appealing and brain stimulating experience. The film’s fast pace and twisty plot make it the perfect movie to watch with friends and family.
“I watched this movie with my friends. It was actually pretty good and had me pretty invested,” Senior Pongsakorn Kingsukhorn said, “I would recommend it.”
However, the movie’s plot and pacing is questionable. The story line is convoluted, with just way too many conflicts and plot twists to keep track of. Not to mention that there are so many characters that it feels like it’s relying on their big names instead of following compelling and arc developing characters. This makes the film feel shallow, only focusing on the exciting and flashy aspects while neglecting character development and a deeper emotional bond.
“Maybe I should’ve paid better attention to the movie, but there were a few times where just too much stuff was happening and it was hard to keep up,” Senior Ashley Martinez said.
Overall, the film is jam packed with interesting conflicts and situations, but it can be deemed as an emotionally surface level movie. This can be supported by the discrepancy between critic reviews and the rotten tomato scores. I recommend this movie for casual viewers, but if you are looking for a deeper, more emotionally resonant movie, this movie is not for you.
